New Roots offers a range of cashew-based, organic, artisan vegan cheeses made in Switzerland following traditional cheese-making techniques. Their cheese is a more ethical and sustainable and great alternative to animal-based cheese. They have a range from camembert to ricotta to cream cheese, you will never feel you are missing out!
New Roots is my favourite cashew-based cheese brand I have tried so far and great if you are transitioning into veganism or if you are already vegan or dairy-free of course!
You can buy their cheese from their online store, Planet Organic, Whole Foods and other various health stores in London, and also France and Germany. Check out their store locator on their website to find a store near you!
1. Camembert Smells yummy and creamy. Great texture and similar to animal-based camembert. The flavour is so nice and definitely gives that similarity to cheese. This is such a great alternative for a cheese platter!
2. Chives (Spread)
This spread is so delicious! You can definitely taste the quality of ingredients and it has the perfect flavour. Basically taste like cream cheese and chives but artisan style. The texture is a little firm, still a spread and spreads well. I loved this!
3. Greek Style
This smells really nice, like sundried tomatoes and herbs. The texture is similar to the camembert. Very flavoursome and really nice herby flavours and a subtle hint of natural sweetness from the cashews. I love the flavours they use in this one; tomatoes, onions, garlic, basil, oregano, so also similar to Italian herbs, which I love!
So this one has the texture of ricotta. The taste is a tiny bit sour which I guess goes well for cheese. The taste is basically plain as it says but creamy, so you could do a lot with it. Yum!
5. Herbes De Provence
This one is similar texture to the Greek Style one just a little softer. Herby flavours, the prominent flavour is thyme, so if you like the herbs they use you will like this.
6. Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Thyme & Lavender
This one is supposed to be ricotta texture like the Plain one, the Plain seemed a little softer than this one. It has subtle flavours of lavender and thyme. The lavender makes it's different and interesting and does surprisingly go well in different foods and desserts when it's not overpowering. The flavours are done well I am really impressed with all of these cheeses!
